These samarium cobalt pot magnets have a closed and seal-welded casing made of stainless steel (grade 1.4404). This makes the magnets not only corrosion-resistant but also acid-resistant and alkali-resistant. In addition, these pot magnets made of samarium cobalt (SmCo) are temperature-resistant up to 350 °C, making them suitable for use on the doors of wood-burning stoves, for example. Thanks to their stud with outside threading, the SmCo pot magnets can be quickly screwed into existing threads. Alternatively, you can also feed the threaded stud through a hole and secure it with a nut.

What is samarium cobalt (SmCo)?

Samarium and cobalt belong to the rare earth elements. The alloy SmCo is a combination of these two rare earth metals. A distinction is made between two types of alloys:
  • SmCo5 consists exclusively of samarium and cobalt.
  • Sm2Co17 consists of samarium, cobalt and amounts of iron, copper and zirconium.
The Sm2Co17 alloy is more commonly used. The SmCo pot magnets in our assortment also contain the Sm2Co17 alloy.

Characteristics of magnets made of samarium cobalt (SmCo)

Permanent magnets made of SmCo are heat-resistant up to 350 °C as well as corrosion resistant. External factors such as heat or moisture cannot harm SmCo magnets. In addition, the magnetic field of these magnets is extremely stable, and they are difficult to demagnetise. This makes magnets made of samarium cobalt suitable for a wide range of applications.

The SmCo pot magnets in our assortment feature a cover made of stainless steel grade 1.4404. It is acid-resistant as well as alkali-resistant and will also protect the magnet from damage. Thanks to this completely closed casing, these pot magnets are suitable for permanent outdoor use and can also withstand short-term use in water.

Areas of application for samarium cobalt magnets

Our SmCo pot magnets are ideal for use at home or in gardens; for example, to attach plants to ferromagnetic surfaces or to hang decorations in garden seating areas. The stainless steel casing protects the SmCo magnets from rust and corrosion.
