How do you use Sugru?

As soon as the adhesive putty is removed from the packaging, the humidity in the air triggers the hardening process. As a result, you only have about 30 minutes to use the Sugru adhesive. Knead the glue with clean hands until it is pliable enough to shape into the desired form. The surface to which you want to apply the adhesive putty should be clean and free of dust. Press the adhesive putty into shape and wait for 24 hours until the glue has completely hardened. Opened portions cannot be stored, since the putty will harden after it was first removed from the packaging.

Suitable materials

Sugru adhesive putty forms a chemical bond with almost all materials, such as aluminium, steel, ceramic, glass, wood, leather, and most plastics (e.g. Plexiglas and ABS), but also rubbers such as silicone and butyl rubber. It is best to test the putty on an inconspicuous place first.

Repairing instead of throwing away

The applications of Sugru adhesive putty are almost unlimited. «Repairing instead of throwing away» is an important Sugru motto. Especially with damaged things that have a sentimental value, such as your favourite shoes, mementos, etc., the repair putty is often the last chance to save the item from the dustbin. Also, Sugru may prevent expensive repairs and replacement parts. Here are some examples:

• Repairing the mobile charging cord when the insulation is damaged: Shape Sugru into a ball and surround the damaged area. After drying, the putty remains flexible and doesn't render the cord rigid.
• Repairing the washing machine seal: The tough Sugru adhesive putty is waterproof and withstands even a spin cycle.
• Replace broken-off plastic parts: For example, repair a damaged spot on your dishwasher basket with Sugru. If you use a white repair adhesive, you almost won't notice the repaired spot. Reattach the handle to a saucepan lid with mouldable Sugru adhesive. The glue withstands temperatures of up to 180 °C without issue. Use Sugru adhesive putty to repair broken shower shelves and permanent shower caddies or other fixtures. Once hardened, water and steam won’t affect the glue.
• Get beloved toys working again: Reattach or rebuild broken-off body parts with Sugru. You can mix the colours to get the desired shade.
• Holes in the sole of a shoe: Simply fill the annoying hole with a piece of repair adhesive and it will seal the hole in no time.

The purpose of Sugru adhesive putty is not just to repair damaged objects but also to improve existing items, such as:

• Insulating pot handles so you don't burn your hands
• Attaching headphones on the side of the monitor
• Individual improvements to play and sports equipment (moulding a handle for a walking stick or a ski pole, touching up the front of a surfboard, etc.)
• Mounting coloured hooks on smooth surfaces without drilling: Shape Sugru into a hook and attach it to kitchen or bathroom tiles - or attach store-bought, decorative hooks to the tiles with Sugru. This solution works better than suction cups or regular adhesives.

Sugru and magnets: A successful team

You can implement strong and individual mounting solutions with Sugru and also with neodymium magnets. Combined they form an unbeatable team that opens up new application opportunities in the workshop, home, and garden. Neodymium disc magnets are especially suitable for making a "magnetic adhesive". Some examples:

• Completely embed magnets in Sugru so they become waterproof and more impact-resistant
• Attach magnetic bike lighting
• Attach key rings, scissors, glass containers with metal lid, etc. to the underside of shelves

For optimal adherence of magnet and Sugru adhesive putty follow these steps:

1. Shape a portion of Sugru into a ball and place it on the magnet.
2. Reshape the ball into a cone and place the adhesive putty with the cone tip first on the desired surface. Press on firmly.
3. Spread the overflowing putty equally around and over the magnet with your finger.
4. Let it dry for 24 hours.
